Empty metro train interior in soft morning light

For years, "metro coming soon" was something every brochure in south-east Bengaluru said, and something no one could ride. That changed in August 2025, when the Yellow Line opened to Bommasandra. If you are looking for your first home around Attibele, Chandapura or Hosur Road, this guide explains what the line actually does for you today, what it does not do yet, and how to weigh it honestly.

Facts here were checked on 15 October 2026 against news reports of BMRCL (Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited) statements and the official BMRCL website. Train numbers and timings keep changing, so check BMRCL again before you decide.

The Yellow Line in brief

The Yellow Line is a fully elevated metro line of about 19.15 km with 16 stations, running from RV Road (near Jayanagar) to Bommasandra on Hosur Road. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated it on 10 August 2025 (PTI via The Week, 10 Aug 2025). At RV Road you can change to the Green Line.

It started slowly. On opening day there were only three trains, running about every 25 minutes. As new trains arrived through late 2025 and 2026, the gap between trains (called "headway" or "frequency") came down step by step. Reports from mid-2026 put it at about 7 minutes at peak hours and about 10 minutes off-peak, with more than a dozen trains in service (Deccan Herald, 2026). BMRCL has said more trains are due from 2027.

In plain words: the line is real, it is running, and it is now frequent enough to plan a daily commute around.

Stations that matter for Attibele and Chandapura

For anyone south of Electronic City, three parts of the line matter most:

  • Bommasandra (the last station). This is the station you will use from Chandapura or Attibele. It sits on Hosur Road beside the Bommasandra industrial area. Our Bommasandra locality guide covers the area around it.
  • The Electronic City stations. A few stops north, these put the big IT campuses within a short ride. For many Hosur Road buyers, this is the trip that matters every day.
  • Silk Board and RV Road. Silk Board is the junction that has long been the worst part of any south-east commute. Riding over it, instead of sitting in it, is the line's biggest gift. RV Road connects you to the Green Line for Jayanagar, Majestic and beyond.

Notice what is missing: there is no station in Chandapura or Attibele. The line stops at Bommasandra, and everything south of it still depends on the road.

Last-mile: bus, auto, bike from Attibele

"Last mile" means the trip between your home and the station. Here it is often more than a mile, so it deserves a careful look.

  • From Chandapura: roughly 4 to 5 km to Bommasandra station. A short bus, auto or bike ride, usually 10 to 20 minutes.
  • From Attibele: roughly 12 km along Hosur Road. Expect 25 to 45 minutes by bus or bike, depending heavily on traffic at the Chandapura and Bommasandra junctions.
  • From Sarjapur–Attibele Road: you first come out to Hosur Road at Attibele or Chandapura, then head north. Add that extra stretch.

BMTC (the city bus service) runs feeder buses to some metro stations; check its app for routes from your area. Many people simply ride a two-wheeler to the station. If you plan to do that, ask whether the station has parking, and what it costs per month, before you count on it.

One honest test: do the trip yourself, on a weekday, at the time you would really leave for work. A ten-minute map estimate at noon tells you very little.

Commute times compared

BMRCL's running time from Bommasandra to RV Road is about 35 minutes, stopping at every station (PTI, Aug 2025). That is train time only. A realistic door-to-door trip adds up like this:

Part of the trip (Attibele to RV Road area)Rough time
Home to Bommasandra station25–45 min
Wait for the train (peak)0–7 min
Train, Bommasandra to RV Roadabout 35 min
Station to office5–15 min
Totalabout 65–100 min

By road, the same trip at peak hour can easily take 90 minutes or more, and it changes a lot from day to day. The metro's real benefit is not always speed. It is that the train part of your trip takes the same time every day, so you can plan your mornings.

If your office is in Electronic City, the picture is better: the train ride is only a few stops. If you work on Sarjapur Road or the Outer Ring Road, the Yellow Line may not help much at all, because it heads north-west towards Jayanagar, not east. Our comparison of Sarjapur–Attibele Road and Electronic City lays out both sides.

Does a metro raise rents and prices here?

Usually, homes close to a working metro station become easier to rent and sell, and asking prices nearby tend to rise. That has happened around Bommasandra already. But two cautions apply.

First, much of the expected benefit is often priced in before the line opens. Buying near a station today does not mean you will see the jump people saw earlier. Second, the effect fades with distance. A home 12 km from the station does not gain the way a home 1 km away does.

For a first-home buyer, the useful question is not "will prices go up?" It is "will this home make my daily life easier, for a price I can afford?" Be wary of any seller who uses the metro to justify a higher price without showing you comparable sales nearby. Ask for the RERA registration and recent sale prices in the same area, and decide on those.

If you are looking further south, our guides to Chandapura and Attibele explain how each area works day to day, and the Hosur Road corridor guide shows how they fit together.

The Hosur metro extension proposal

You may hear that the metro will "soon" reach Attibele or Hosur. Here is where things stand.

A metro line from Bommasandra to Hosur in Tamil Nadu, about 23 km with 12 stations (about 12 km in Karnataka and 11 km in Tamil Nadu), has been studied as south India's first interstate metro (Indian Infrastructure, 28 Aug 2024). Tamil Nadu paid for the feasibility study. BMRCL has also looked at a shorter extension to Attibele.

However, BMRCL reportedly rejected the Hosur proposal earlier in 2026. On 5 August 2026, Tamil Nadu's finance minister said the state is still pursuing it with the Centre and Karnataka (Swarajya, 5 Aug 2026). There is no approval, no funding and no construction.

Our advice: treat the extension as a "maybe, many years away". Buy a home that works with the roads and the metro that exist today. If an extension comes later, that is a bonus, not something you should have paid for upfront.

A simple checklist before you decide

  • Map your real daily trip: home, station, train, office.
  • Try it once at peak hour before you book.
  • Check station parking and feeder buses from the home you like.
  • Ask for RERA details and nearby sale prices, not metro promises.
  • Count the metro as a benefit only if you will use it most weekdays.

FAQ

Questions on this topic

How far is Attibele from the nearest metro station?

The nearest station is Bommasandra, the southern end of the Yellow Line. From Attibele it is roughly 12 km by road along Hosur Road, so plan on a bus, auto or bike ride of 25 to 45 minutes depending on the hour. Chandapura is much closer, at roughly 4 to 5 km.

Does the Yellow Line go to Electronic City?

Yes. The line runs from RV Road to Bommasandra and has stations in and around Electronic City, so the IT campuses there are a few stops from Bommasandra. Check the station list on the BMRCL website before you pick a home based on a particular stop.

How long is Bommasandra to RV Road by metro?

About 35 minutes end to end, according to BMRCL's stated running time, with a halt at all 16 stations. Add your wait at the platform (around 7 minutes at peak in 2026 reports) and the ride to and from the stations.

Will the metro extend to Attibele or Hosur?

Not soon, on current evidence. A 23 km Bommasandra–Hosur line has been studied, and Tamil Nadu said in August 2026 that it is still pursuing it, but BMRCL reportedly turned the proposal down earlier in 2026. Nothing has been approved or funded, so do not pay extra for a home on the promise of it.

Should I buy near Bommasandra for the metro?

Only if the metro truly fits your daily trip. If you work along the Yellow Line, a home near a station can save real time. If you work on Sarjapur Road or the Outer Ring Road, a quieter home in Chandapura, Attibele or on Sarjapur–Attibele Road may suit you better, often for less. Compare the full commute, not just the distance to a station.
